Description: Abstract Derevianko O., Smigorovska I. Dichotomy MINE / NOT MINE in Jacqueline Wilson’s novels for children. Introduction. The conceptual dichotomy MINE / NOT MINE is a complex phenomenon in human life. It occupies one of the most important places in the children’s worldview along with other oppositions of children’s perception of the world, such as SELF / ALIEN, GOOD / BAD, BIG / SMALL, FAR / CLOSE, DEAD / ALIVE etc. As children strongly react against taking their possessions and tend to stand up for their property rights, the study of the novels for children allows issuing a comprehensive description of the main components of the dichotomy MINE / NOT MINE. Purpose. The purpose of the article is to analyze the features of linguistic realization of the conceptual dichotomy MINE / NOT MINE and its integral parts by the example of Jacqueline Wilson’s novels for children. Methods. The dichotomy MINE / NOT MINE has been examined in detail using the following methods: inductive and deductive method for analyzing and synthesizing scientific theories and concepts; the method of vocabulary definitions and componential analysis for establishing the semantic content of the conceptual dichotomy; the method of conceptual analysis for determining the semantic structure of the dichotomy MINE / NOT MINE.Results. The main components of the conceptual dichotomy MINE / NOT MINE are: personal possessions; private house; sharing; generosity; greed; borrowing / lending; boasting/jealousy. The characteristic features of children’s understanding of the dichotomy MINE / NOT MINE include: the proprietary attitude towards people and animals; the use of several intensifiers to enhance the idea of personal ownership; the negative attitude towards those who encroach on their belongings; the use of offensive words to call names and tease children they do not like. Originality. The originality of the work lies in the carrying out a cognitive analysis of the conceptual dichotomy MINE / NOT MINE which has not been extensively investigated, in particular in the children's worldview. The model of the dichotomy MINE / NOT MINE has been constructed for the first time and the features of lexicalization of the dichotomy in modern English have been pointed out. The main components of the dichotomy have been fully described by the example of the children’s novels of the famous English writer Jacqueline Wilson. Conclusion. The conceptual dichotomy MINE / NOT MINE is one of the most significant oppositions for children. The desire to be the only owner of their possessions and not to let others encroach upon their belongings is so strong, that it makes them do everything possible in order to protect their property. Depending upon their attitude towards other people, they are to decide whether to share something or not. In this way they raise their self-esteem, which is one of the most important aspects of development and maturation. That is why children’s understanding of the dichotomy MINE / NOT MINE differs so much from the adult’s one. Key words: dichotomy, concept, children’s worldview, component.
