Виборча активність у місцевих виборах Польщі 1990-2006 років

Abstract

This article is devoted to investigations of voting participation in local elections in Poland and analysis of main reasons for electoral passivity. One of the determinative factors of political life in the republic of Poland is increasing electoral passivity. The fact that the change of political system has an impact on the absenteeism level is underlined. Moreover, elections to local authorities affect the formation of the voters’ political self-consciousness. The article focuses on the principal motives for voters to participate in elections as well as factors causing political apathy. Statistical review of participation of voters of some cities and regions of Poland was made. It was noted that Poland’s entry into the European Union did not increase the voting participation, but the role of local governments has become more important.
