Abstract: The study was performed within the border zone between Poland and Slovak Republic, at the region of Krampna commune. This study focuses on the loss of traditional village system (TVS) in Krampna commune. The traditional village system, which was successful for centuries for achieving both common economic as well as cultural development of Lemkos people’s in Poland were discussed. The TVS was basic unit of the Krampna commune landscapes up to WWII. The analysis showed reduces the number and area of settlement. Data obtained show that the traditional village system in Krampna commune was completely destroyed. Support of TVS (as a good indicators of sustainable landscapes) and socio-cultural functions and land use systems including fields, wooded grasslands and forests should be milestones in a future sustainable development of this region.
